The Drug Enforcement Administration’s Office of Chief Counsel is accepting applications from experienced attorneys to fill a position in its Domestic Criminal Law Section.  The attorney will be primarily responsible for providing legal support in all criminal law, procedure and policy issues for the Drug Enforcement Administration and its field offices. This includes issues arising from drug-related and money laundering statutes, investigative methods and techniques, search and seizure, interview and interrogation, testimony and expert witnesses, discovery and disclosure, legislative proposals relating to criminal law and procedure, and Federal sentencing guidelines.

About the Office: The Office of Chief Counsel provides legal services and guidance to all components of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in matters that arise in the conduct of DEA missions to enforce the controlled substances laws and regulations of the United States.

The Domestic Criminal Law Section serves as the principal legal advisor to DEA personnel on Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment issues, as well as all aspects of criminal discovery. They assist in the development of policies and procedures governing DEA's conduct of criminal investigations, including those policies and procedures related to criminal discovery.

Job Description: The attorney will be primarily responsible for providing legal support in all criminal law, procedure and policy issues for the Drug Enforcement Administration and its field offices. Qualifications: 

Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar in good standing (any jurisdiction), and have at least five (5) years of post-J.D. legal experience. Applicants must also have 1) experience in criminal law, with Federal prosecutorial experience preferred; 2) excellent academic credentials; 3) strong oral and written communication skills; 4) superior legal research and analytical skills; 5) experience in dealing with complex legal and policy issues; and 6) familiarity with legal issues arising from use of electronic surveillance and other investigative technology and/or the Internet in narcotics investigations. Proficiency in computer-aided legal research and computer word processing is required. Applicants should also meet eligibility requirements for a Top Secret Clearance.

Salary: GS-14 ($107,325 - $139,523) to GS-15 ($126,245 to $158,700)

Travel: Travel is not required for this position.

District of Columbia Court of Appeals

NOTICE

Beginning June 1, 2015, the D.C. Court of Appeals will be accepting new and updated applications from qualified attorneys for inclusion on its Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Panel.  Applications are available at http://www.dccourts.gov/internet/legal/cja.jsf.

The CJA Panel is comprised of attorneys the court determines are eligible to be appointed to represent indigent appellants in criminal appeals. Decisions to accept new applicants and to continue current members of the CJA panel on the 2015-2016 CJA panel are at the discretion of the court.  Such decisions are based on the needs of the court, including the number of appeals filed, the complexity of the appeals, and the needs of the defendants.  One of the outstanding needs of the court is for bilingual attorneys.

Prior to submitting a new or updated application, applicants must read Miscellaneous Order No. M-217-03, which establishes a Continuing Legal Education requirement for attorneys on the CJA panel; the 2006 Notice to CJA Counsel Concerning the Annual CLE Requirement; and the memorandum titled "Obligations of Counsel."  These documents, along with other documents explaining various CJA issues, are available on the court’s website.  Submission of an application constitutes an acknowledgment and acceptance of the obligations of counsel.

Attorneys interested in joining the panel must submit four copies of a completed application, including four copies of the writing sample. Attorneys currently on the DCCA CJA panel who wish to remain on the panel must return a completed 2015 Application Update, and may also attach their 2015 CLE documentation if the CLE requirement is satisfied (submitting both the DCCA form and the attendance verification forms).

Completed applications and updates should be submitted to Rosanna Mason, Staff Counsel, District of Columbia Court of Appeals, Historic Courthouse, 430 E Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20001.  Both the application and the update for current panel members include a waiver and release form that will permit the Office of Bar Counsel to release any disciplinary records on the applicant to the D.C. Court of Appeals.

All applications and updates must be received no later than July 17, 2015.  The court expects to notify successful applicants—both new applicants and current members who have reapplied—by the end of August 2015.   

Robert Half Legal is currently seeking Vietnamese-fluent, DC-licensed or DC-pending attorneys for a document review project slated to begin as early as next Monday, June 1^st.

This Fellowship Program will fund one law graduate who will work for one year to provide legal services to and advocacy for the Vietnamese American community and/or other underserved, underresourced communities. This year, the fellow will receive $30,000. This is the second year that this fellowship will be awarded. The Vietnamese American Bar Association of Northern California (VABANC) Law Foundation will administer the Fellowship Program.

The objective of the Fellowship is to provide legal services on issues related to racial/ethnic communities in the law and to improve the quality of legal services delivered to underserved minority populations, including but not limited to the Vietnamese American community. The Fellowship will thus support a law graduate whose work will support underserved, underrepresented communities in an increasingly diverse state and nation.

The Board Diversity Apprentice Project (BDAP)

The Board Diversity Apprentice Project (BDAP) is now accepting applications for its apprentice-nonprofit board matching program.

An Echoing Green semifinalist, BDAP recruits, trains, and certifies junior- and mid-level attorneys of color to serve on nonprofit boards then matches certified apprentices with nonprofit organizations. Eligible candidates will be licensed attorneys of color who have graduated from law school within the last 10 years.

Commercial lawyer with responsibility for GE businesses in Vietnam & Cambodia.  Support GE Corporate initiatives in Vietnam & Cambodia, advise GE businesses on contractual, commercial and compliance matters; work with external counsels on litigation and arbitration matters.  Work with business teams to lead legal policy initiatives and to reduce litigation risks. • Act as General Counsel supporting the CEO, Vietnam & Cambodia and to provide legal support to GE Corporate and businesses in Vietnam & Cambodia;
• Develop early warning systems on law, regulations and government policies in Vietnam & Cambodia;
• Develop appropriate strategies and manage outside counsel in significant GE litigation, arbitrations and dispute resolutions across businesses in Vietnam & Cambodia;

• Lead internal investigations; and

Requirements:

• Minimum of 10 years, preferably no less than 8 years’ experience with a law firm of international standards or equivalent in-house experience
• Solid hands-on experience in corporate commercial legal work with a good understanding of government processes in Vietnam & Cambodia
• High ethics and integrity, mature and independent, clear in logic and good in judgment, able to work with self-motivation and independence
• Comfortable working with individuals with different languages and cultures
• Excellent verbal and written communication, training and presentation skills in English and Vietnamese.  Khmer language skills will be an added advantage.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with ability to interface with cross-functional and cross-region teams, able to work under pressure and willing to take challenges
• Problem resolution, sensitivity to issues and strong facilitation skills
• Pro-active, responsible and responsive
